Head Start

Bauer’s Head Start families and children enroll in either our Preschool or Pre-kindergarten Center-Based programs. Both programs provide comprehensive age-appropriate educational experiences that promote the school readiness of individual children and support families in preparing for the next educational steps.

Head Start center based Preschool

Children aged 3 to 4 years old and their families may join our Preschool program and children aged 4 to 5 years old who are entering kindergarten the following year and their families are invited to join our Pre-kindergarten program. Our Head Start Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness Programs are offered in Clinton, Carroll, Tippecanoe, Hendricks, Owen, Morgan, and White County.

Head Start children attend school all day Monday through Thursday for centers located in Clinton, Carroll, Tippecanoe, and White Counties. Head Start children attend school all day Monday through Friday for centers located in Hendricks, Owen, and Morgan Counties. Each day children engage in school readiness activities planned by their teachers. Families use weekly Home Links from teachers to reinforce and continue the learning at home. In addition, families volunteer in their child’s classroom eight hours per month, participate in Bauer’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and elect representatives to Bauer’s Policy Council. Families also engage in a minimum of two home visits and two conferences with their child’s teacher each year.

Head Start Preschool home based Program

This program is for children in Hendricks, Owen, and Morgan Counties aged 3-5 years old and children entering kindergarten the following year. Families are assigned a Bauer Home Visitor who works with parents on their child’s individual learning. Home-based parents actively participate in the 90-minute weekly visits, create learning goals for their child and continue the learning between visits using Home Links.

Home-based families plan the twice-monthly group socializations where, along with their children, they enjoy educational activities, share meals, and develop friendships and support. Families also participate in Bauer’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and elect representatives to Bauer’s Policy Council.
