Family Centered Services

Bauer Family Resources has been delivering community based services to at-risk children and their families since 1929. The organization was formed as the result of one woman’s desire to keep children from becoming involved in the court system. This vision evolved over time to working with the families of at-risk children and the community.

Child-centered, family-focused prevention and intervention services are provided to families in Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Warren, and Tippecanoe counties. Services are designed to overcome the risk factors associated with children abuse and neglect, educate and strengthen families. Services are provided through the lens of child safety with an emphasis on the family strengths and protective factors that can be leveraged to ensure children are safe. Services are focused on the family as a whole and emphasize partnering with families to meet their individual needs.

Workers are trained to use a variety of evidence based/best practice interventions in their work with families. All staff is trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence-based practice that elicits behavior change by helping individuals explore and resolve ambivalence. This intervention supports change in a manner that is congruent with the person’s own values and concerns versus “imposing” change.

Therapists are trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(TF-CBT). It is a 12-16 week intervention designed to address post-traumatic stress and related emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents.

Bauer trains staff to use evidence based/best practice interventions, such as those used in the HOMEBUILDERS® Model. These include the “Your Deal” cards that assist families in identifying values, goals and strengths; “Social Support Circle” that assists families in identifying concrete and emotional supports within their families and community; and specific interventions related to domestic violence, substance abuse and child development.

Therapists are skilled with the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
